In the fall, my class began to bring my ImagineIt to life through their work on a Party Planning Project. The Project was a great way for my students to begin to identify basic skills they didn’t know while having some fun. As we worked through the ImagineIt, we encountered some problems with completion by some groups due to group sizes. Lack of focus and follow through, in addition to running out of time and not meeting due dates. Now we are embarking on another project, “Planning a Class Field Trip”.
My students will work in smaller groups of 3 to plan field trips for the 5th grade classes to attend in the spring. Over the course of 8 week students will brainstorm places to go, total cost of trip including lunch, bus, gas, and admission. When students have successfully researched 4 locations by using internet find all the information they can to help with completing the project. Then they will calculate the cost of lunch for all the every one who will attend as well as finding a bus company to use for the trip. Students will also have to calculate how much it will cost to gas up the bus for the trip. In their research getting admission for students and chaperones so they can figure out the total cost of admission.
Upon completing the research, students will write a proposal to me identifying which location their group feels will provide the most educational value as well as fun for the class. The final part of the project is for students to vote on up to 5 of the researched trip choices for the 5th graders to attend.
